Story of Stuff in German

I’m working today on the forward to the German edition of the Story of Stuff book, which will be published soon after the U.S. version comes out next month (pre-orders available via Powell’s Books, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon)

    The Story of Stuff film has already been translated into German and we’ve received thousands of emails from people in Germany who liked it. Some also sent us  examples of German films which address the same issues we explore in Story of Stuff. Here’s one with English subtitles and another translated into English to see how they’re talking about issues of consumption, resource use and equity in the German context.

      Ive been teaching for 5 years now. I love teaching but I hate my job. Im an art teacher, and for the last 5 years I have had to figure out how to run my classes on .42 cents per student for supplies FOR THE YEAR. My roof leaks in 8 places, water runs down the walls. Most of the time there is no heat and no air conditioning. There are no windows in the concrete construction of the room I teach in. I am under artificial lighting all day, which is worse when the rain water fills up the light covers and turns the light brownish yellow. I get pneumonia 3 or 4 times every winter. I teach 8 classes in 6 periods, with as many as 4 different classes in the same room at the same time and with ages and grade levels mixed as well. The admin wonder why I am not more effective. I hate every day, but I still love the kids. I feel sorry for them, they are stuck here too and expected to be creative in this hell hole. I teach in Southern CALIFORNIA, not in south Africa like you might think. I can never quit my job, I am too deep in debt, it cost me $77,000 to be here! Can it be illegal to have to endure this? Maybe not, but it would get me black balled from any future job to say anything aloud!

      i see that there is a conference going on this week at Queens University Belfast focusing on climate change and fisheries and the ability for some comercial fish to survive. They basically are saying, yes man inability to manage a fishery is causing the biggest problem, but climate change is also creating an issue which is much harder for the ecosystem to counter. Cold adapted fish are going to die out as in evolutionary terms the change is occuring too quick. Food.. quiet literally for thought

      could we have this in tagalog too?many filipinos lack education to understand english but they can understand meaningful messages…and brenda, don’t give up, there are few people in this world like you, just do what you do. you are doing a good job…
