10 Little and Big Things You Can Do

This Earth Day—and every day—each of us can promote sustainability and justice at multiple levels: as an individual, as a teacher or parent, a community member or businessperson, as a national citizen, and as a global citizen.

Like I say in The Story of Stuff, “the good thing about such an all pervasive problem is that there are so many points of intervention.” In other words, lots and lots of places to plug in, get involved, and make a difference!

There is no single simple thing to do because the set of problems we’re addressing just isn’t simple. And yes, everyone can make a difference, but the bigger your action the bigger the difference you’ll make.

Here’s our list of 10 Little and Big Things You Can Do.

The list is great. Whst is bothersome is the word toxic (an adjective) is used as a noun instead of the correct word, toxin, throughout the entire article.

Great list. My 11th thing is compost. Compost your kitchen wastes, of course. However, the most important thing you can possibly do to get right with the environment is to compost your feces to make “soil food” instead of polluting water. Your urine can be composted with your feces, or it can be collected separately and diluted before you give it to the soil.

Meanwhile, jjroses28, a “toxin” is a poisonous substance that is a specific product of the metabolic activities of a living organism. The word “toxics” is commonly used as shorthand for “toxic chemicals” — the human-made variety.
