About this video

With U.S. unemployment soaring, advocates have won a wave of emergency orders barring utilities from shutting off the water of residents who can’t pay their bills. But two-fifths of Americans remain at risk of a shutoff, despite warnings that frequent hand-washing is crucial to preventing the spread of the coronavirus.

On Episode 5 of The Shift, we’ll discuss Detroit’s hard-won moratorium on water shutoffs, and the growing cry for a massive federal investment in public water infrastructure, with Michigan Welfare Rights Organization Chair Maureen Taylor and Corporate Accountability’s Alissa Weinman.
